Missouri State University Celebrates Two Exceptional Leaders with University Leadership Chair Honors

The Missouri State University Board of Governors recently honored two leaders: Brent Dunn and Matt Morris. Both have played key roles in advancing the university. Dunn is the vice president for university advancement and has been pivotal in fundraising, while Morris serves as vice president for administration and finance, overseeing vital campus developments.

The board awarded them the University Leadership Chair, a recognition that lasts for two years and includes a $2,250 annual supplement. Board Chair Tim Francka expressed pride in their strategic vision and teamwork, emphasizing their importance to Missouri State’s mission.

Dunn led the Onward Upward campaign, which raised an impressive $274 million by October 2022, supporting scholarships, faculty, and facility upgrades. Since January 2023, the Missouri State Foundation has attracted over $84 million in additional donations. Major projects funded include:

– Clifton M. Smart III University Advancement Center
– Judith Enyeart Reynolds Performing Arts Complex
– Agriculture Innovation Hub

Morris has been overseeing over 180 ongoing projects, totaling nearly $210 million. Recently completed projects like the Roy Blunt Hall addition and the John Goodman Amphitheatre have enhanced campus life. Current major renovations are focused on the Ann Kampeter Health Sciences Hall and the Craig Hall addition.

Both Dunn and Morris have long histories with Missouri State. Dunn has worked there for 40 years, while Morris has been part of the university for 26 years. President Richard B. Williams praised their dedication and fiscal responsibility, stating that their efforts have strengthened the university’s foundation.

Established in 2008 under Mary Schrag’s leadership, the University Leadership Chair highlights exceptional leadership within the university’s administration. It’s a prestigious recognition for those who make a significant impact on the university’s success.

The growth in donations and projects at Missouri State echoes national trends in higher education funding. According to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, giving to U.S. colleges and universities reached a record $49.5 billion in 2020, showing a strong commitment to education despite challenges.
