Missouri State University (MSU) will soon honor two remarkable former employees by inducting them into its Wall of Fame. On May 8, the Board of Governors approved the induction of Don Simpson and Kathy Davis, who collectively dedicated 66 years to the university.
A formal ceremony is planned for the fall, where their names will join 147 others on the wall. Simpson, who worked at MSU from 1978 to 2019, was a pioneer in enrollment management. During his 41-year tenure, he played a crucial role in the university’s growth, particularly during a period of significant transition, including its name change from Southwest Missouri State to Missouri State University.
His attention to detail and clear communication made a lasting impact. He meticulously analyzed data and policies, always aiming to improve student services and systems. Simpson was known for prioritizing students and embodying servant leadership.
Kathy Davis served as the director of the Academic Advisement Center for over 26 years, from 1993 until 2019. Under her leadership, the center evolved into the Academic Advising and Transfer Center. Davis initiated the Master Advisor Program, which enhanced advising quality and supported professional development for advisors. Her efforts earned national recognition for the university in 1997, showcasing MSU’s commitment to student support.
Both inductees exemplify dedication and passion for student success. They were nominated based on criteria, including a minimum of ten years of service, a five-year gap since their departure, and significant contributions to student achievement.
This recognition highlights the importance of effective enrollment and advising practices in higher education. As universities navigate the complexities of modern education, leaders like Simpson and Davis provide inspiring examples of how commitment and innovation can lead to sustained success for both institutions and their students.
