Missouri State’s Public Health Institute Secures 0K Grant to Enhance Community Wellness – Exciting News!

Missouri State University’s Ozarks Public Health Institute just received a significant grant of over $549,000 to tackle health challenges in the greater Springfield area. This funding comes from the Missouri Foundation for Health and will help expand the long-standing Community Focus Report.

The Community Focus Report is an important resource for understanding Springfield’s strengths and challenges. After years of publication, it will evolve from a static report into an active program under OPHI. This change aims to support the community more dynamically by focusing on priority health issues.

Brad Bodenhausen, vice president of community and global partnerships, emphasized the report’s role in improving the community. He stated, “OPHI’s involvement will support community partners as we work together toward improvements.” This research and community collaboration aligns with Missouri State’s commitment to public affairs.

Established in 2001, OPHI aims to address public health issues across Missouri. The new grant will enable OPHI to work closely with local organizations, using a collaborative approach to address ongoing challenges while celebrating the positive aspects of the area.

As the program develops, OPHI plans to leverage data, enhance its digital presence, and strengthen research capabilities. This initiative will also engage Missouri State students and staff in research and community projects, further enriching the university’s public affairs mission.

Dr. Dalen Duitsman, OPHI Director, highlighted the institute’s goal: “Public health is what we do together to ensure everyone can be healthy.” The emphasis is on offering students, staff, and faculty opportunities to contribute to important health initiatives.

This grant will initially fund the project for the first three years, providing a foundation for community health improvements in Springfield and potentially beyond.
