Players of Monster Hunter Wilds have discovered a typo in the game’s config file, and correcting it may boost FPS and textures.
Monster Hunter Wilds launched to great fanfare, hitting a peak of 1.3 million players on Steam. Fans eagerly dove into Capcom’s latest adventure, but PC gamers have faced some real issues.
From the start, players reported performance problems—frequent crashes, stuttering, low frame rates, and odd texture pop-ins. Even gamers with top-tier GPUs like the RTX 4090 were left scratching their heads at the inconsistent performance.
This has led to a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with many users upset about the performance issues, even on powerful rigs.
Could a Typo Be the Culprit?
In an unexpected twist, players discovered a typo in the game’s configuration file that may be affecting performance. This revelation came from a Steam user named BeepBoop and gained traction on the Monster Hunter subreddit.
The typo is a misspelling in the config.ini file found in the game’s installation folder (steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds). Instead of “Resolution,” it reads “Resoltuion.” Although it seems minor, correcting it has reportedly helped some players.
For instance, BeepBoop noted their frame rate increased from 120 FPS to 140 FPS after fixing it. Others shared their experiences:
- One player reported a 10% FPS boost at 4K with DLSS Quality on an RTX 4090.
- Another mentioned their FPS went from ~45 to ~60 without Frame Generation.
- Someone else described it as “insane,” reporting a 30-40 FPS increase.
- However, not everyone had better performance. Some reported no change at all.
Upon checking the config.ini file ourselves, we found the typo as well. Some users speculate that it may not only affect FPS but also texture streaming. A few players reported better texture loading and more stable GPU performance after the fix.
One user even noticed reduced memory usage, letting them run high texture settings without issues. While the extent of the impact is still being explored, the community continues to share their results.
In addition to correcting the typo, some players tweaked two more settings in the config.ini file with positive results:
ParallelBuildProcessorCount=16
RenderWorkerThreadPriorityAboveNormal=Enable
Originally, these were set to 8 and false. After adjustments on an Intel Core i9-13900K and RTX 3090, users saw a significant FPS increase, often reaching< strong> close to 60 FPS with DLSS in Quality mode.
Capcom is aware of the performance issues on PC and has addressed them in a support thread. However, they have yet to comment on the typo in the configuration file.
Whether Capcom will patch this typo is uncertain, but the reports of FPS and texture improvements are rising. Fixing it manually may be worth a try if you’re experiencing performance struggles in Monster Hunter Wilds.
If you’ve tried this fix, we’d love to hear your experience in the comments!
