Moscow Airports Halt Operations Following Ukraine Drone Strikes: What You Need to Know

Moscow airports faced severe disruptions recently, thanks to a large-scale drone attack by Ukraine. This incident caused the temporary closure of major airports and led to the cancellation of about 140 flights. The Russian defense ministry reported that over 230 Ukrainian drones were intercepted, with 27 shot down over Moscow.

The chaos didn’t stop there; the closure affected flights at four main airports around the capital, prompting a significant number of diversions. Fortunately, operations have since returned to normal.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian air force claimed to have shot down 18 out of 57 Russian drones during the same night. The conflict extends to various regions, including Sumy and Donetsk, where air strikes resulted in civilian casualties and damaged infrastructure.

Amid this turmoil, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated he is still open to peace talks with Ukraine. His spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, emphasized that while there is a desire for a peaceful resolution, the immediate focus remains on military objectives. However, there have been no successful cuts in fighting through negotiations to date, though some prisoner exchanges have occurred.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also pushed for renewed talks with Russia, seeking to bridge the gap established when discussions stalled last month. He expressed readiness for face-to-face discussions with Putin to seek a genuine path to peace.
