ATHENS COUNTY, OH – The top-ranked Minot State University Beavers men’s hockey team capped off their regular season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over No. 3 Ohio University on February 16. This win completed a series sweep over Ohio, showcasing the Beavers’ strong performance this season.

Minot State finishes the regular season with a stunning record of 33 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties. On the other hand, Ohio University ends their season with 17 wins, 4 losses, and 3 ties.

The game started with Ohio scoring first during a power play, thanks to Nolan Abraham’s goal late in the first period. The Beavers struggled to score against Ohio’s goalie, Max Karlenzig, who made nine saves in that period.

Things picked up in the second period. Just 14 seconds in, Trenton Curtis evened the score at 1-1. However, Ohio reclaimed the lead midway through the period with a power play goal from Drake Nabozny. The Beavers didn’t let this setback phase them; Colby Joseph tied the game at 2-2 shortly after. By the end of the period, Jay Buchholz scored, putting MSU ahead 3-2.

The Beavers’ lead held strong into the third period. Goalie William Dyke performed admirably, making six saves on six shots to ensure MSU’s victory. With the regular season behind them, the Beavers look ahead to the MCH tournament in Normal, Illinois, starting February 21 and running through February 23. Exact game times are yet to be announced, but with their strong finish, the team is poised for a great postseason.
