The chilly weather has pushed some basketball games to Wednesday. But while it’s cold outside, the competition on the court is heating up. Teams like Penn Hills, Kiski Area, and Hampton are all in close contest for the top spot in Section 2-5A boys basketball.
Penn Hills currently stands at 6-7 overall but boasts a strong 6-1 section record. Kiski Area follows closely with a 7-6 record and 5-1 in the section, while Hampton is at 9-6 and sits at 5-2. The excitement continues on Wednesday when Hampton visits Penn Hills at 7:30 p.m. The first game ended with a narrow victory for Penn Hills, winning 46-40.
The Talbots have a busy week ahead, facing Kiski Area at home on Friday. Meanwhile, Kiski Area’s match against Indiana, which had been postponed, is now set for Saturday.
WPIAL Boys Wrestling Section Finals
Wednesday is a significant night for WPIAL boys wrestling as six out of nine sections will crown their champions in head-to-head matches.
- Section 1-3A: West Allegheny faces Moon, both teams undefeated at 2-0.
- Section 2-3A: Trinity meets Canon-McMillan, both at 3-0.
- Section 4-3A: Butler hosts North Allegheny, tied for first at 3-0.
- Section 5-3A: Fox Chapel visits Kiski Area, both teams also at 3-0.
- Section 8-3A: Defending champ Connellsville welcomes Latrobe, both at 2-0.
- Section 9-3A: Franklin Regional vs. Norwin, where the winner will take the section title with a 4-0 record.

2A Wrestling Matches
In Class 2A wrestling, three sections will also see championship matches on Wednesday:
- Section 1-2A: Chartiers-Houston faces McGuffey to break a tie at 2-0.
- Section 5-2A: Central Valley takes on Freedom in another top match between 2-0 teams.
- Section 9-2A: Defending champion Burrell will visit Highlands for the title.
Several other matches in both 3A and 2A could also impact playoff spots or lead to co-section champions. The intensity is rising as teams put everything on the line in these final matches.
