MV Sunshine: Journey of an LPG Vessel Crossing the Strait of Hormuz to India

LPG Tanker MV Sunshine Heads to India Amid Rising Tensions

The LPG tanker MV Sunshine is currently navigating the Strait of Hormuz, making its way to India after being evacuated from the Persian Gulf. This marks the 15th LPG vessel to safely escape the region due to increased tensions. Multiple organizations, including the Indian Navy, are ensuring its secure passage.

In Iran, military spokesperson Brigadier-General Mohammad Akrami Nia stated that Iranian forces are maintaining readiness, particularly as a ceasefire with the United States remains uncertain. He noted that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard controls the western part of the Strait, stressing the military’s vigilance in preventing any potential threats.

Recent data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) suggests that global oil supply could decrease by 3.9 million barrels per day in 2026, largely due to disruptions resulting from the conflict in West Asia. With over 10 weeks of conflict, oil supply losses from the Strait of Hormuz are significantly affecting international inventories.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for about 20% of the world’s oil supply, has been facing rising pressure due to the ongoing situation. As a response, the Indian Navy has ramped up its presence and protective measures for commercial ships in the area.

This ongoing conflict has made global oil markets increasingly volatile, leaving industries and consumers alike concerned about future supply.
