The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show cohost Savannah Guthrie, has taken a grim turn. Authorities are now looking into her disappearance as a potential abduction. Nancy was last seen at her home near Tucson on the night of January 31, around 9:30 PM. When she didn’t arrive for church the next morning, her family reported her missing.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that investigators found signs of forced entry at her home. Personal items, including her cellphone and wallet, were left behind. “Nancy was taken from her home against her will,” Nanos said. The sheriff’s department is treating this situation as more of a crime scene than a search mission.
Reports indicated that a possible ransom note was found, leading to heightened concerns from law enforcement. The FBI is involved, providing support and analyzing evidence collected from her home. They found potential DNA evidence as well.
Nancy has limited mobility and requires daily medications. Her family fears that being without her medication could pose life-threatening risks. “It’s a race against time,” Nanos emphasized, urging the public to offer any assistance they can.
