Netflix’s Nadaaniyan attempts to explore the world of young love among privileged teens, but it falls flat. The story revolves around Pia (Khushi Kapoor), a well-off girl from South Delhi, who wants to create her ideal romantic narrative. She enlists Arjun (Ibrahim Ali Khan), an ambitious middle-class boy from Noida, to pose as her boyfriend. Their game plan? Fake a relationship without emotional ties. Yet, as they spend time together, real feelings unexpectedly develop.

The premise might sound interesting, but the execution feels outdated and unrealistic. Today’s high school students face real challenges and have dreams beyond superficial relationships. Unlike the characters in Nadaaniyan, they are not just caught up in drama and dating games. This film doesn’t resonate with the current generation, who are more informed and grounded.

Pia and Arjun’s journey feels like a fairy tale disconnected from reality. The characters seem shallow, and the storyline lacks depth. Even the secondary characters, such as Arjun’s mother (played by Dia Mirza), don’t contribute meaningfully to the plot. The film also makes attempts to address infidelity through Pia’s father (Suniel Shetty), but these themes feel forced and out of touch with today’s audience.

One of the film’s major drawbacks is its predictability. Viewers can easily guess how it will unfold, which diminishes any excitement. The dynamic of a rich girl falling for a middle-class boy has been explored countless times, and here it feels stale and uninteresting.

While Ibrahim Ali Khan shows potential, the film does not help him shine. His acting feels limited by the script and direction, which do not allow him to showcase his talents fully. Khushi Kapoor, on the other hand, struggles to bring her character to life, often appearing stiff and uninspired. Acting requires skill and practice, and both actors seem to lack proper guidance, especially in a film that demands more depth and nuance.

As streaming platforms expand their offerings, it’s surprising that Netflix chose to feature a film like Nadaaniyan. With so many better options available, this one stands out as a misfire. It showcases a narrative that feels so out of touch with the realities facing today’s youth. The film’s lack of engaging storytelling and its dated themes make it less appealing.

In the end, Nadaaniyan is an unremarkable watch that fails to leave an impression. It reflects a missed opportunity to represent young love more authentically. Even with a star-studded cast, it’s disappointing and ultimately forgettable, leaving you wishing for something much more compelling.
