The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Ikeja recently praised the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for its prompt waste removal services. It’s great to see government agencies working together to keep our environment clean!
During a visit to LAWMA’s headquarters, Air Commodore Mohammad Imam, who leads the 651 Base Services Group, expressed gratitude for the swift action taken to clear waste from the Base. He emphasized that around 20 waste evacuation trucks were deployed, highlighting LAWMA’s commitment to maintaining sanitation throughout Lagos.
Imam also supported the planned resumption of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise starting in late April. He sees it as a positive step to boost public hygiene and encourage environmental responsibility in the community. The NAF will lend its support to ensure compliance with these new standards.
LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, welcomed the collaboration. He noted that Lagos is moving toward a circular economy, where waste is seen as a resource rather than just trash. For instance, the biodigester at Ikosi Fruit Market turns organic waste into biogas for energy. This innovative approach not only helps the environment but also has potential economic benefits.
Moreover, the LAWMA Academy is teaching children about waste sorting and recycling, creating a future generation that understands the importance of sustainable practices.
