Najee Harris, the talented running back, has officially joined the Los Angeles Chargers after spending four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Leaving Pittsburgh wasn’t hard for him. During a recent chat with reporters, he revealed that he realized midway through the last season that it was time for a change.
“I didn’t plan on it,” Harris explained about his decision to leave the team that drafted him in 2021. “But it is a business.” He appreciated Coach Mike Tomlin’s honesty during this transition.
Now, Harris is reuniting with Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Chargers. Interestingly, Harbaugh had recruited Harris back in 2017 when he was at Michigan. He even attended Harris’s homecoming game, which left a memorable impression on him.
“I was just like, what the heck?” Harris recalled, impressed by Harbaugh’s dedication. “That showed how cool he is.” Fast forward eight years, and Harris still sees that same spark in Harbaugh. “He’s always energetic and down to earth,” Harris says. “He makes you feel comfortable.”
Harris is excited about this new chapter. He praised the Chargers for their upward trajectory and wants to be a part of their rising success. “When we played against them, I saw what they could become, and I wanted to be a part of that,” he said.
Looking ahead, Harris will soon face his former team; the Steelers will visit L.A. in the 2025 season. This matchup is bound to be thrilling, as emotions will run high for both Harris and the team he once called home.
