Safe Passage for Indian Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
In a recent development, Iranian authorities have allowed Indian-flagged tankers to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising tensions in the region. The LPG tanker Shivalik has already crossed safely, and another vessel, Nanda Devi, has also exited this crucial shipping route.

He noted that India has been a supportive partner during these challenging times. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi confirmed that Tehran has granted permission for ships from several nations to transit through the Strait.
Statistics reveal the significance of this waterway; approximately 20% of the world’s oil and gas exports travel through it, making it a key point for global energy security.
Current Situation of Indian Vessels
The Ministry of Ports and Shipping reported that there are currently 28 Indian-flagged vessels operating in the Persian Gulf. These ships, including the 24 located west of the Strait carrying 677 Indian seafarers, are under close surveillance to ensure their safety. The remaining four vessels are to the east, with 101 Indian crew members aboard.
