Nasa Welcomes Senegal as the Latest Nation to Join the Artemis Accords: A New Era in Space Collaboration

Senegal recently signed the Artemis Accords at NASA’s headquarters in Washington. This agreement marks Senegal as the 56th nation to join a global pledge for responsible space exploration.

Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “The signing builds on the strong relations between the U.S. and Senegal.” Director General of the Senegalese Space Agency, Maram Kairé, represented Senegal, emphasizing the country’s commitment to a collaborative and transparent approach to space.

“This signature is a significant step in our space diplomacy,” Kairé noted. It showcases Senegal’s ambition to contribute to peaceful outer space exploration.

The signing took place shortly after President Trump’s meeting with Senegal’s President Faye, highlighting the focus on U.S.-Africa relations.

Senegalese astronomers have actively contributed to NASA’s missions, particularly in observing celestial events. In 2021, they helped study the asteroid Orus as it passed in front of a star. This collaboration is part of NASA’s ongoing efforts to engage with countries involved in space science.

The Artemis Accords, first established in 2020, aim to create practical guidelines for safe and transparent space exploration.
