The Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA) has exciting news! They have just opened the Tom & Julie Wood Community Pantry. This new food pantry is specially designed to meet the needs of older adults in Nassau County.
What makes this pantry unique? It’s the first senior-focused food pantry in the county. This initiative aims to tackle food insecurity while ensuring seniors have access to healthy, age-appropriate groceries at no cost. The goal is to create a welcoming space for seniors to find the nutritional foods they need.
The pantry will provide a diverse range of nutritious options, all tailored to the dietary needs of older adults. Trained volunteers will be on hand to assist. Plus, for those who can’t visit in person, there’s a delivery system in place. This works alongside Meals on Wheels to ensure that homebound seniors receive food regularly.
This effort reflects NCCOA’s dedication to supporting the independence and well-being of older adults in the community. Thanks to the generosity of Tom and Julie Wood and collaborations with various community partners, this pantry is now a reality.
Food insecurity among seniors is a pressing issue. According to a recent report by the National Council on Aging, approximately 5 million seniors face hunger in the United States. The launch of the Tom & Julie Wood Community Pantry is a step toward addressing this critical problem locally.
As we celebrate the opening of this important resource, it’s interesting to note the growing trend of senior-focused services. Social media is buzzing with posts sharing similar initiatives across the country, highlighting community efforts to support aging populations.

Since its founding, the NCCOA has aimed to help older adults live with dignity and independence through vital services, resources, and support. The Tom & Julie Wood Community Pantry is just one of many steps in that ongoing mission.
