Ne-Yo is embracing his truth and being open about his polyamorous lifestyle. Recently, he shared that he is honest with his children about his relationships. During an interview on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, he discussed how his kids react to this aspect of his life.
“Of course they ask questions. I give them honest answers. I’m not lying to anyone, not even my kids,” he stated.
He explained to them, “Hey, this is daddy’s girlfriend. And so is that, and so is that.”
Ne-Yo has seven children: Madilyn, Mason, Shaffer Jr., Roman, Isabella, Braiden, and Brixton, from three different partners. His older kids, Madilyn and Mason, are from his relationship with Monyetta Shaw-Carter. After that, he had three children with his ex-wife Crystal Renay, from whom he separated in 2023. His two youngest kids, Braiden and Brixton, are with influencer Sade Jenea Bagnerise.
His openness about being polyamorous followed a difficult divorce. In that radio interview, he expressed how balancing multiple relationships works well for him.
“One partner will make you cereal, another prepares lunch, and a third does laundry. It all works out,” he said.
He emphasized that it’s more than just relationships; it’s about building a community and a family.
When asked how he manages several partners, Ne-Yo stressed the importance of transparency. “It’s not about juggling; it’s about honesty. Everyone must be truthful,” he explained.
He added, “There are four women total in my life. On that night, three were with me, and it works because everyone knows the truth and agrees.”
At 45 years old, Ne-Yo expressed a sense of regret for not being true to himself earlier. “I spent too much time being dishonest. If I had embraced my truth sooner, I could have avoided a lot of pain,” he reflected.
