Neal Land & Neighborhoods recently organized its fourth annual food drive, collecting an impressive 2,438 pounds of non-perishable food for Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. This year’s total surpassed last year’s donation by over 220 pounds, showcasing the community’s growing commitment to helping those in need.
John A. Neal, the head of Neal Land & Neighborhoods, has been instrumental in creating vibrant communities like North River Ranch, the site of this food drive. The event took place throughout June and brought together residents, builders, and local partners. Notably, contributors included Pulte Homes and Driggers Engineering, among others.
This effort isn’t just about numbers; it’s about real impact. The food collected will help feed over 740 families, particularly children who may not have access to school lunches during summer break. In fact, a recent study showed that hunger among children spikes during school vacations, making initiatives like this even more crucial. According to the USDA, more than 12 million children in the U.S. lived in food-insecure households in 2021, a significant concern as summer approaches.
Such community-driven efforts are increasingly recognized not just for their immediate benefits but also for fostering a culture of giving. Social media trends indicate that more people are discussing local philanthropy, with hashtags like #FoodDrive and #CommunitySupport gaining traction.
