Near Win: Sherman Oaks Powerball Ticket Just One Number Away, But Still Scores Million!

The Powerball jackpot has soared to an impressive $1.3 billion after the latest drawing didn’t yield a winner. This massive prize, set to be drawn on Wednesday, has a cash option of about $589 million, making it one of the largest in history.

In the most recent drawing, no one matched all six winning numbers, which were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53, and the Powerball 5. However, ten lucky tickets matched all five white balls, earning holders a $1 million prize each. One winning ticket was sold at a 76 gas station in Sherman Oaks, California, while others were purchased in states like Florida, Kentucky, and New York.

Additionally, two tickets matched five white balls and won $2 million each by opting for the Power Play feature. There were also 124 tickets that snagged $50,000 prizes and 25 tickets that won $150,000.

The last big Powerball win occurred in June, when a ticket worth $204.5 million was sold at a 7-Eleven in Arleta, California. Remarkably, Southern California has produced two jackpot winners this year alone. In March, a ticket worth $515 million was purchased in Anaheim.

Historical jackpot data shows that two of the highest Powerball winnings were claimed in California—$2.04 billion in November 2022 and $1.765 billion in October 2023, indicating the state’s lucky streak.

Powerball is popular across 45 states, including Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and are streamed live on Powerball.com.

Experts remind us that the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are quite slim—about 1 in 292 million. Yet, many play for the thrill of dreaming big, sharing stories of close calls and nearly winning. Social media buzzes with excitement around such massive jackpots, sparking conversations about what people would do if they struck it rich. As the drawing date nears, anticipation builds, and ticket sales soar, highlighting the unique blend of hope and chance that fuels the lottery craze.
