Recently, several educators and community members from the Nedrose area attended the 40th annual ND Roughrider Health Promotion Conference in Medora, held from May 26 to 29. This conference aimed to inspire participants to foster healthy lifestyles within schools and communities. Representing the Nedrose Public School Health Council were Adrianna Durno, Lisa Bahm, Sadie Volk, Austin Olson, JoAnn Schapp, Alex Schmaltz, and Samantha Schmaltz. They were part of a group of 125 attendees from various schools and communities across North Dakota, all eager to enhance their health programs.
The conference covered various aspects of Coordinated School Health, focusing on health education, physical education, and nutritional services, among others. Attendees explored essential topics like bullying prevention, chronic disease awareness, and professional development. These discussions aimed to equip them with practical strategies for improvement.
Two keynote speakers brought fresh perspectives to the event. Joe Beckman, a Minnesota author, shared insights on rebuilding human connections in schools. He offered tools to create a supportive school culture. Matt Booth, an Iowa-based expert, emphasized the power of a positive attitude and how it can drive meaningful change.
According to a recent survey from the CDC, nearly 80% of school-aged children do not engage in sufficient physical activity. Events like this conference are crucial in addressing such gaps. They highlight the need for comprehensive health programs that engage students and involve the entire community.
