Amanda Palmer, the estranged wife of author Neil Gaiman, recently responded to claims made by a former employee. The employee has filed a lawsuit in multiple states, alleging negligence on Palmer’s part and accusing Gaiman of sexual assault. The woman claims that Palmer befriended her in New Zealand when she was 22 and homeless, which led her to work for the couple.
Palmer took to Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the respect shown toward her need for privacy during this difficult time. She stated, “I deny the allegations against me and will respond in due course.” She emphasized her priority is to protect her young child’s privacy. Palmer also mentioned that previous complaints had been made against Gaiman by multiple women.
The lawsuits accuse the couple of violating federal human trafficking laws and making complaints of assault, battery, and emotional distress against Gaiman, while also claiming negligence against Palmer.
Palmer has previously mentioned on social media that she is in the midst of a custody and divorce battle with Gaiman, which limits her ability to comment publicly. She reiterated her focus on being a parent during this challenging period.
Since numerous allegations surfaced against Gaiman in early 2023, his publisher canceled future projects, including a comic book series. Additionally, a UK stage adaptation of his novel “Coraline” was scrapped, and he was removed from a project related to the “Good Omens” comic book.
In response to the allegations, Gaiman expressed his horror and dismay, emphasizing that he has never participated in non-consensual activities. He acknowledged that he could have been more thoughtful and explained that the allegations mixed truths with falsehoods.
Palmer is known for her music career, including her founding role in the band The Dresden Dolls. She married Gaiman in 2011, and they welcomed their son in 2015. In 2022, they announced their decision to divorce, stating their commitment to co-parenting and maintaining a supportive environment for their child.
