Nelly Korda Ques the Competition: Five-Shot Lead at LPGA Chevron Championship Final Day!

Nelly Korda, ranked second in the world, has had an impressive run at the LPGA Chevron Championship. She matched the tournament’s 54-hole record, yet her lead has shrunk to five shots. After rounds of 65 in the previous days, she finished Saturday with a 70, putting her at 16 under par at Houston’s Memorial Park.

If Korda secures her second Chevron title on Sunday, she could rise to the top of the world rankings. This would happen since the current leader, Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, missed the cut.

Korda started strong with four birdies in her first six holes. However, her putting faltered, preventing her from maintaining the momentum. “The front nine was great,” she said. She plans to practice her putting before the final round, hoping for a better performance. “Just got to reset and hopefully it goes my way tomorrow,” Korda added.

Patty Tavatanakit from Thailand is trailing Korda, finishing Saturday with a 69. Despite a bogey on the 13th hole, which was her first of the tournament, she reduced Korda’s lead to five strokes. Tavatanakit is currently at 11 under.

Pauline Bouchard from France and Yin Ruoning from China are another shot back. Ruoning shot an impressive bogey-free 66, marking the best round of the day.

Korda’s score of 200 after three rounds ties her with Jennifer Kupcho, who held the same score in 2022 and went on to win.

This year’s Chevron Championship showcases the fierce competition in women’s golf. As players like Korda, Tavatanakit, and others battle for victory, it’s worth noting the growing interest in women’s sports. According to a 2023 survey, viewership for women’s golf has increased by 25% over the last two years, reflecting a positive trend in support for female athletes.

Overall, as the final round approaches, fans are eager to see if Korda can hold her lead or if another player will rise to the occasion.
