Nestlé has just introduced new products to its Materna line of nutritional supplements aimed at supporting mothers throughout their pregnancy journey. The latest additions are Materna Expert Healthy Pregnancy and Materna Expert Post-Birth Recovery. These offerings follow the launch of Materna Expert Preconception Support last year.
This new range is the result of over ten years of research, including 17 patents and more than 20 studies. The aim is to help women prepare for pregnancy and to boost their nutrition, ultimately benefiting their babies long-term.
Isabelle Bureau-Franz, head of R&D for Nutrition at Nestlé, emphasizes that these products showcase their commitment to science and women’s health. She mentions that the research was conducted through partnerships and highlights how tailored nutrition can improve health outcomes for mothers and their children.
Currently, the Materna products are available in China, which has a high number of annual pregnancies. The Preconception Support was also introduced in Brazil last year, with plans for further international releases in the future.
Recent findings from the NiPPeR clinical trial support the effectiveness of these products. The trial monitored women from preconception through to post-birth. Results indicated that the special blend of probiotics, myo-inositol, and vitamins improved women’s nutrition throughout their pregnancy. Notably, it was associated with reduced risks of excessive weight gain and obesity in children by the age of two.
Nestlé’s Materna Expert Post-Birth Recovery focuses on helping mothers heal after childbirth, boosting their energy, and supporting breastfeeding needs. Serena Aboutboul, head of the Nutrition Business at Nestlé, reinforces the company’s aim to empower women during motherhood. She believes these innovations are not just products—they reflect a dedication to women’s health and creating a positive future for children.
As discussions around maternal health continue to grow, it’s worth noting that maternal nutrition is receiving increasing attention. Research shows that maternal diet can significantly impact a child’s development, making these products timely and relevant. By addressing women’s nutritional needs at every phase of motherhood, Nestlé is stepping into a crucial area of public health.
