New Evidence in Bryan Kohberger Case: Updated Timeline, Text Messages, and 911 Call Uncovered in Idaho College Murders

MOSCOW, Idaho — On the night of November 13, 2022, tragedy struck when four college students were murdered in their home near the University of Idaho. Text messages from the surviving roommates revealed their attempts to contact their friends during the chaotic night.

New court documents provide more details about the events leading up to the stabbings. Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogen arrived at their house around 1:45 a.m. Two of their roommates were also there. One roommate ordered an Uber to return from a bar at 2:10 a.m., while the other was still awake and texting.

At 4 a.m., the group received a DoorDash order. One roommate thought she heard Kaylee playing with her dog. Shortly after, she reported hearing what seemed to be Kaylee saying, “there’s someone here.” A nearby security camera captured sounds of barking and what appeared to be voices just before 4:30 a.m.

Starting around 4:22 a.m., the roommates began to panic as their calls and texts went unanswered. “No one is answering,” one roommate, identified as D.M., messaged. “I’m really confused right now.” She reached out to Kaylee, saying, “What’s going on?” D.M. then expressed her fear by saying, “I’m freaking out right now.”

In a series of unsettling messages, D.M. referred to a man in what sounded like a ski mask. When she insisted she wasn’t joking, the response from her friend B.F. was to come to her room. “Run,” B.F. texted, urging her to leave.

The chilling messages offer a glimpse into the panic within the home during the attacks. Prosecutors believe these texts reflect the immediate fear and confusion as the horrific events unfolded.

Later, D.M. mentioned that she heard crying coming from Kernodle’s room. When she opened her door, she reported seeing a masked man walk past her. She described him as tall, around 5-foot-10, with bushy eyebrows. This man was later identified as Bryan Kohberger, who has been charged with the murders.

Both surviving roommates are expected to testify in the upcoming trial. New documents also include a transcript of the 911 call made at 11:58 a.m., hours after the stabbings, when Kernodle was found unresponsive.

During the emergency call, the roommates mentioned that one of their friends was unresponsive and hinted at seeing a man in their home the night before. Dispatch asked if the friend was breathing and was told no. “I think we have a homicide,” someone stated at the scene.

Kohberger was arrested about a month after the murders, following a nationwide manhunt. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. He did not enter a plea at his arraignment, and a not-guilty plea was entered for him. If convicted, he could face the death penalty, with the trial set to start in August.
