Dale Caldwell has recently made history by winning the New Jersey gubernatorial election alongside Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill. The Democrats triumphed with a solid 56% to 43% victory over their Republican opponents, Jack Ciattarelli and James Gannon.
Caldwell expressed his gratitude on social media, saying, “Every single day of this campaign has been a reminder of what a special place New Jersey is. I’m humbled and honored to be your next Lieutenant Governor.”
Before stepping into this new role, Caldwell was the president of Centenary University. He took on this position in 2023, becoming the institution’s first Black president. His background also includes serving as a pastor at Covenant United Methodist Church in Plainfield.
This election marks a significant moment in New Jersey’s history, as Caldwell will be the state’s first Black lieutenant governor when he takes office in January. This adds to a growing trend of diverse leadership in politics, reflecting wider societal changes.
