TUCSON, Ariz. – NM State wrapped up its regular season at the Desert Heat Classic, held at the newly updated Roy P. Drachman Stadium at the University of Arizona. The Aggies delivered a strong performance with eight top-10 finishes, showcasing their talent in a challenging meet.
In the field events, freshman Julia Nystrand shone in the hammer throw, while Presley Edwards impressed in the javelin. The bright afternoon brought excitement as a trio of Aggies participated in the 3000m steeplechase. Nia Allison led the pack, clocking in at 10:59.52 for a fifth-place finish, followed closely by Jordan Torres and Murrie Dodge.
Alesha Lane took on a tough field in the shot put, where she finished 14th with a best throw of 14.42 meters. Nystrand also excelled, earning her second-best mark of the season at 13.11m.
In the 100m dash, Marlee Cavitt finished strong with a time of 11.56, and Aja Johnson followed with 12.35.
Adéla Steinsová set a personal best in the 1500m, finishing in 4:28.43. This accomplishment ranks as the sixth-fastest time in NM State history.
Alesha Lane also represented the team in the discus throw, ending up 11th overall. Meanwhile, Aileen Alvarado was the sole participant in the high jump, achieving a mark of 1.63m.
Back on the track, Cavitt shined again in the 200m, delivering a personal best of 23.45, the third-fastest time recorded in NM State’s history. Jaylah McDonnell also set a new personal mark, just shy of the top-10 records.
Brooke Kelly made her return to competition by securing second place in the 5000m with a time of 19:39.65. For the last event, the 4x400m relay team, consisting of McDonnell, Amanda Radava, and Steinsová, achieved a season-best time of 3:51.19.
Looking ahead, NM State is gearing up for the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, set to take place from May 14 at Middle Tennessee.
