New Pew Study Reveals: Why Most Latino Voters Disapprove of Trump

Many Latinos are losing faith in Donald Trump. A recent report from the Pew Research Center shows that about 70% of Latinos disapprove of his presidency. This includes 65% who criticize his immigration policies and 61% who believe his economic strategies have hurt their situation.

In the 2024 election, Trump saw some support from Latinos, securing 48% of their votes, up from 28% in 2016. Latinos are a key group in the U.S., making up one in five people. However, the initial backing may be fading fast. Many voters appreciate Trump’s economic proposals and his softer stance on immigration threats. Yet, polls show that two-thirds of Latinos feel ignored when he discusses immigration.

Since then, things have changed. Trump’s introduction of tariffs, cuts to social programs, and aggressive immigration raids have caused disappointment. Criticism has come from unexpected places, like a co-founder of Latinas for Trump, who called the arrests “unacceptable and inhumane.”

Recent elections in New Jersey and Virginia show Democrats gaining back Latino support. Voting patterns reveal a stark division: almost all Latinos who supported Kamala Harris disapprove of Trump, while a dwindling 81% of Trump voters still approve of him—down from 93% at the start of his term.

Latino communities are also feeling the pressure of stricter immigration policies. The fear of deportation is growing, with 52% expressing this anxiety, a significant rise from 42% in March. Many have witnessed or heard about immigration raids in their neighborhoods recently.

For the first time in almost two decades, most Hispanics feel that their situation has worsened. Pew found that only 10% believe Trump’s policies have helped them, while a staggering 78% think these policies have harmed their community.

This shift signals a changing landscape for Latino voters. As their concerns and discontent grow, political leaders may need to reevaluate their approaches to address the real issues faced by this vital demographic.
