New Pornographers Drummer Faces Serious Charges: Arrested for Child Pornography

Joseph Seiders, the drummer for the indie band New Pornographers, was arrested in Palm Desert, California, on April 9. The arrest followed disturbing reports of inappropriate behavior involving a child. According to police, an 11-year-old boy claimed that a man filmed him in a restroom.

As more calls flooded in detailing similar incidents at a Chick-fil-A, investigators moved quickly. Soon after, officers arrested Seiders and secured a search warrant for his apartment. They uncovered further evidence that led to serious charges, including child pornography and invasion of privacy.

The New Pornographers wasted no time in distancing themselves from Seiders. They released a statement on April 18, expressing shock and heartbreak. “Everyone in the band is absolutely shocked, horrified, and devastated,” they said. Seiders, who joined the band in 2014, played on the 2017 album Whiteout Conditions. He is set to appear in court soon.
