On Saturday, city leaders and local partners organized a coat drive, food distribution, toy giveaway, and a warm meal, all free of charge. “This year, we incorporated a coat drive and offered job opportunities,” Eley shared. Local businesses like Newport News Shipbuilding participated, looking for new workers, while the D&D Enlightenment Foundation helped manage the coat drive. Volunteer Dre McLean articulated the spirit of the day. “Many families are struggling with rising costs. We’re here to ensure they stay warm this winter,” he said.
