NGTC Nourishes Over 180 Families: Join Our Community Food Distribution Effort!

North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) recently held a successful drive-thru food pantry at its Clarkesville campus. This event, part of their Welcome Week, provided food assistance to local families. It was organized in collaboration with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Neighbors 4 Neighbors (N4N).

Sherry Seal, the NGTC Campus Life Director, expressed gratitude for these partnerships. She highlighted the impact of their efforts, noting that they served 181 families and hope to host more food pantries in the future.

NGTC President John Wilkinson also praised the initiative. He emphasized how faculty and staff went beyond welcoming students to help the wider community. This reflects a commitment to nurturing both student relationships and community welfare.

In addition to special events, NGTC runs a year-round food pantry called Feeding the Pack. This essential resource supports students, faculty, and staff facing food insecurity. The pantry welcomes donations of various food and hygiene items, such as canned goods, snacks, and personal care products.

A study by the Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice found that nearly 39% of college students face food insecurity. Programs like Feeding the Pack play a crucial role in addressing this issue, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without the worry of where their next meal will come from.

The need for such resources is growing. Communities nationwide are grappling with hunger, especially as inflation affects food prices. Events like NGTC’s pantry not only provide immediate relief but also foster a sense of solidarity and support within the community.
