Nikki Glaser is gearing up to host the Golden Globes for the second year in a row. She recently shared that some well-known names are helping her prepare.
During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, she mentioned bumping into Judd Apatow, who has experience hosting events like the Directors Guild Awards. She asked him for notes, but he didn’t have any. Steve Martin also contributed a joke through one of her writers, only to later say it was too risky to use. Martin is nominated this year for his role in Only Murders in the Building.
Hosting the Globes means Glaser has to catch up on numerous nominated movies and shows. While she acknowledges she can’t watch everything, she’s seen quite a bit. However, some titles have slipped through the cracks, like Train Dreams and The Secret Agent.
This year, she’s also been rewatching the classic HBO series The Wire and felt it deserved a nomination. She loved One Battle (After Another) and found Marty Supreme to be outstanding. Glaser believes it’s a fantastic year for film, mentioning that Song Sung Blue caught her attention as well.
Reflecting on last year’s event, she shared that she approached the stage with caution. Being lesser-known, she had to introduce herself softly, realizing she couldn’t be as bold right off the bat. “With status comes the ability to punch harder,” she noted.
As the excitement builds, viewers can tune in to the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony on January 11 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
In recent discussions about hosting awards shows, many comedians emphasize the balance between humor and sensitivity. According to a survey by the Hollywood Reporter, 72% of audiences appreciate humor that respects the nominees, highlighting the fine line hosts must tread.
As Glaser steps into the spotlight again, viewers can expect a blend of laughter and acknowledgments of the industry’s talent, making this year’s ceremony one to watch.
