Hyderabad: Nissan Motor India has firmly dismissed rumors about leaving the Indian market. At a recent online media roundtable, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, assured everyone that Nissan is committed to staying and growing in India. He highlighted plans to expand their lineup, including new CNG variants of the Magnite and a standalone CNG kit.
Vatsa emphasized that global restructuring at Nissan will not affect their operations in India. “Nissan is here to reassure that we are here to stay,” he stated confidently. He clarified that changes in factory shareholding would not disrupt production, exports, or jobs.
Looking ahead, Nissan projects to produce and export 100,000 units each for the fiscal year 2026-2027. Vatsa reaffirmed their commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, promising to keep manufacturing in India for both local and global markets.
The Nissan Magnite has become a significant player since its launch, achieving 200,000 sales—150,000 in India and 50,000 exports. The new CNG variant of the Magnite will be available starting June 1, 2025, priced at ₹6.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It will come in six variants, from a basic manual model to the top-tier Tekna Plus. While exact mileage hasn’t been shared, Nissan promises it will be highly fuel-efficient, even outpacing some competitors.
The standalone CNG kit will be available for ₹75,000. Installation will be handled by government-approved technicians at over 65 locations. The kit includes a cylinder that holds up to 12kg of CNG, and authorized dealers will provide servicing.
When asked about choosing CNG over electric vehicles, Vatsa pointed out that many consumers still prefer internal combustion engines (ICE) and CNG options. He noted a growing demand for CNG, which the government is also promoting by increasing the number of CNG stations across India.
Nissan is also sticking to its earlier plans, set to launch three new SUVs:
– B-MPV 7-seater in Q1 2026
– C-SUV 5-seater by mid-2026
– C-SUV 7-seater at the beginning of 2027
This commitment signals Nissan’s dedication to adapting to market trends and consumer preferences while contributing to India’s automotive sector.
