Nissan India’s Commitment to the Market: MD Emphasizes Long-Term Plans in India

Nissan is here to stay in India. In a recent statement, Saurabh Vatsa, MD of Nissan Motor India, confirmed that the company has plans to introduce three new vehicles by 2027 and open 20 new dealerships this year. This came in response to rumors about Nissan possibly leaving the market.

Vatsa emphasized that Nissan has a solid presence in India, backed by nearly 60 years of operations. He assured fans and customers that the production plans and future capacities are secure. The goal is to sell 100,000 units each in the domestic and export markets this year.

In an interesting development, Renault purchased Nissan’s 51% stake in their joint venture, Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd. Despite this, Vatsa insisted that it’s not indicative of any impending exit from India. He stated, “We are well entrenched, and our plans are intact.”

Looking ahead, Nissan plans to launch a seven-seater MPV in early 2026 and a five- and seven-seater C-SUV by early 2027. Currently, there are about 160 sales outlets, with the aim to reach 180 by year-end.

Additionally, the popular Magnite SUV will now have a government-approved CNG retrofit kit available at a competitive price of ₹74,999. This kit will initially be available in seven states, including Delhi-NCR and Maharashtra, before expanding nationwide.

In the automotive market, trends show a growing interest in eco-friendly options. A recent survey by Statista found that around 35% of Indian car buyers are considering hybrid or electric vehicles. This trend could be a potential boost for Nissan as it expands its offerings.

Nissan’s commitment to India signals strong intentions to adapt and grow in a competitive landscape. With new products and a focus on sustainability, they are gearing up for the future while reassuring their loyal customer base.
