Noah Centineo is taking on a new project, and it’s exciting!
The actor is currently working on Street Fighter, and now he’s in talks with Legendary to star in a live-action movie based on the popular anime Gundam. This adaptation revolves around giant robots called mechas, and fans are eager to see how it unfolds.
If negotiations go well, Centineo will star alongside Sydney Sweeney. The film is directed by Jim Mickle, known for his work on Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, which was based on a beloved comic by Jeff Lemire.
Mickle also wrote the script for this untitled Gundam movie. The original anime began in 1979 and takes place in the Universal Century, a time when humanity has colonized space due to overpopulation on Earth. The plot thickens when people from these colonies demand independence, leading to epic battles involving mechas.
While Legendary hasn’t confirmed anything, they previously considered Outer Banks star Drew Starkey for a leading role, but those talks fizzled out.
The story centers on Sweeney’s character, who finds herself in a Romeo and Juliet-like situation, falling for the male lead amid a war between planets. This unique angle adds depth to the narrative and keeps viewers intrigued.
Centineo became widely known for his role in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, a charming Netflix film that sparked a popular series. He also appeared as Atom Smasher in Black Adam and was part of A24’s recent war film, Warfare.
Things are looking up for Centineo, as he’s set to shoot a prequel to Rambo early next year. Meanwhile, Street Fighter is scheduled for release on October 16, 2026, so fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
This collaboration has sparked chatter on social media, with fans expressing hope for a fresh take on the beloved anime. As more details emerge, anticipation for the Gundam adaptation continues to grow.
