The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) is dedicated to uniting funders, researchers, and farmers. Their goal is to tackle the most pressing issues in food and agriculture through collaboration.

Right now, FFAR is accepting nominations for the New Innovator Award. This award is aimed at early-career scientists whose work focuses on big challenges in the food and agriculture sectors. Winning this award gives researchers the freedom to concentrate fully on their projects without worrying about finding extra funding.
The award will provide support to those who have innovative ideas and the skills needed to carry out their research plans. To qualify, candidates must work on topics that align with FFAR’s priority areas. These include improving production systems, sustaining ecosystems, and enhancing food systems. Each recipient can receive up to $150,000 per year for a maximum of three years, totaling up to $450,000. FFAR plans to fund around 12 awards.
Applicants should be tenure-track faculty members who have held their position for no more than three years and are within eight years of earning their PhD. Significant research experience is defined as having received substantial grants (three to five years of funding) or project funding exceeding $1 million. Nominees can also have other career development awards with similar budgets.
Eligible institutions include U.S. higher education and nonprofit research organizations, as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture. FFAR especially encourages applications from diverse institutions, like Hispanic-serving schools, historically Black colleges, Tribal colleges, and those serving Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
Keep in mind, nominations are due by February 19, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Nominees are invited to submit full proposals by February 26, with final applications due April 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
