North Alabama Women’s Golf Shines on Day One in Arkansas: A Hot Start You Won’t Want to Miss!

JONESBORO, Ark. (October 13, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women’s golf team opened strong at the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Golf Club. They kicked off with four birdies and soared to second place early on, but ultimately found themselves in 11th after two rounds.

Entering the final round, the Lions are still in the game, trailing seventh place by just four strokes. They wrapped up the first round at 12-over, but made impressive adjustments in the second round to finish with a score of 300-293.

The second round score of 293 (+5) was their best yet at Sage Meadows, marking a steady improvement over previous seasons. The Lions logged scores of 295 last season and 296 and 297 in the years before that.

Leading the team was redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber, who had a breakthrough day. After a five-over first round, she came back strong with a three-under second round, finishing at two-over-par 146. Her round of 69 ties for the third-lowest in school history, just behind a record-setting 67 from Allycia Gan in 2023.

Klauber’s second round featured six birdies, showcasing her skill. She began a four-hole birdie streak on the 18th, an impressive feat that propelled her up 41 spots in the rankings.

True freshman Lisa Palmgren is close behind Klauber, tied for 40th at four-over-par 148. Palmgren played consistently, with rounds of 75-73, and also snagged five birdies during the day.

Junior Ava Schwartz had a solid start, but settled into the mid-pack with scores of 74-76 for a tie at 53rd. Despite a strong beginning with two under par through 12 holes, she ended with four birdies throughout both rounds.

Freshman Kiersten Riggins, competing in her second tournament, posted scores of 74-77. She recorded four birdies overall, demonstrating her potential despite a few tough holes.

Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen rounded out the team with a tie in 70th place, improving her score from 78 to 75 in the second round, featuring several key birdies.

The toughest hole on the course was Hole 6. Most players found it challenging, but both Klauber and Chanpen scored birdies there, illustrating their resilience.

The current leader, ULM, is ahead with a score of 559 (-17), followed by Little Rock at 571 and Memphis at 574. UNA is just four strokes behind in 11th place.

As the Lions prepare for the final round tomorrow, they’ll tee off at 8 a.m. alongside Utah Tech and Samford.
