Dallas, TX, Aug. 4, 2025 — The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) has received a generous $3 million grant from the Albertsons and Tom Thumb Foundation. This funding will support NTFB’s new Fulfilling Futures strategic plan aimed at addressing food insecurity in North Texas.
Fulfilling Futures is a five-year initiative focused on providing nutritious meals and promoting overall well-being. The plan seeks to expand partnerships and introduce support services, such as job training and healthcare access, to help people become self-sufficient.
Wes Jackson, the President of the Southern Division for Albertsons, emphasized the importance of building sustainable food security. “We’re committed to ending hunger today and in the future,” he said. Albertsons and Tom Thumb have been supporting NTFB for over 40 years, donating millions of pounds of food each year, including nearly 2.5 million pounds in just the past year.
Food insecurity is a pressing issue in North Texas, affecting over 774,000 individuals, including one in five children. In Texas, close to 5.4 million residents struggle with food access. Dallas-Fort Worth has been marked as the region with the highest hunger rate among Texas metro areas.
This latest grant will enable NTFB to expand its Hope for Tomorrow program, which provides services beyond food aid, bridging the gap between immediate needs and long-term stability. Trisha Cunningham, NTFB’s president and CEO, noted, “Our partnership with Nourishing Neighbors allows us to help families build stronger futures.”
Addressing food insecurity is not just about providing meals; it’s about empowering individuals to improve their lives. The integration of job training and financial support is a critical component of this effort.
