North Texas Mean Green Gears Up for Exciting Showdown at the Puerto Rico Classic!

Puerto Rico Classic: UNT Women’s Golf Team Competes in Paradise

The UNT women’s golf team is heading to beautiful Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, to participate in the Puerto Rico Classic, starting on February 1. This tournament, hosted by Purdue, promises exciting competition in a stunning setting.

Course Details
The Grand Reserve Golf Course offers a par-72 layout at 6,305 yards. Due to weather forecasts, the teams will aim to play 36 holes on Sunday and, if conditions permit, finish with 18 holes on Monday. Sunday kicks off with a shot-gun start at 5:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. local time). Monday’s final round is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. CT.

Strong Competition
Eighteen teams will compete, featuring a lineup of nine teams ranked in the top 50. Notably, five teams are in the top 20, including No. 4 Arkansas and No. 10 Vanderbilt. This competitive field promises to challenge every player on the course.

UNT will be represented by Mason Lewis, Marin Fujiyasu, Bouquet Subsomboon, Malisone Chanthapanya, and Mallorie Luitwieler. Their performance will be watched closely as they play against top-tier teams.

Malisone Chanthapanya made headlines by breaking the school’s record for the best single round score with a remarkable 64 at the Jim West Challenge, finishing second overall—just one shot shy of the winner.
