At a recent Auto Show Gala, Northwood University President Kent MacDonald revealed exciting news: they’ve raised over $20 million for automotive education. This significant funding highlights Northwood’s status as a leader in the field.
This announcement happened during the 62nd Northwood University International Auto Show, which is the largest outdoor, student-run auto show in the U.S. The $20-plus million raised is part of Northwood’s When We Are Free campaign, aimed at reaching a goal of $100 million—estimated to be over 75% complete by the end of the event.
“This week has been remarkable,” MacDonald said. He pointed out the efforts of students and staff who are taking Northwood’s programs into a new era, including the launch of a new Automotive & Mobility MBA, which aims to keep pace with industry innovation.
MacDonald expressed gratitude towards the donors who contributed to this success, noting that their support reflects the automotive industry’s confidence in Northwood as a top institution for nurturing future leaders. The funds will establish new endowed professorships and scholarships, benefiting programs like Automotive Marketing & Management and Automotive Aftermarket Management. They also plan to upgrade existing facilities like the NADA Hotel and Conference Center.
Advancement Vice President Murray Kyte emphasized the campaign’s goal to drive innovation and prepare students for a rapidly evolving industry. With the right support, graduates not only fill today’s roles but also shape the future of automotive and mobility sectors.
A recent study showed that over one-third of Northwood graduates either own businesses or hold leadership roles, making their educational investments crucial. The When We Are Free campaign is designed to ensure this trend continues through scholarships and modern learning environments.
Dr. Matthew Bennett, Vice President of Enrollment, noted that industry backing has always propelled Northwood forward. This $20 million achievement will open new doors for students who will contribute to America’s free enterprise system.
In today’s environment, aligning education with industry needs is more critical than ever. Governments and businesses globally are emphasizing skilling up the workforce, and Northwood is positioned to lead this charge. Its commitment to high-quality education and strong connections with the automotive industry make it an essential player in shaping tomorrow’s leaders.
