The Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) has approved a grant of Rs 8.50 lakh to support the Environment Education Programme (EEP 2024-25). This funding comes from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and will be implemented by the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Leading the project are Parveen Goyal, Rajat Sandhir, and Sonia Sharma. Their goal is to boost environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices through interactive activities.
As part of EEP 2024-25, several key activities are planned. These include:
- Developing LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) skills.
- Hands-on workshops and demonstrations on waste utilization in landfills.
- Strategies for water conservation, including drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting.
- Efforts to reduce single-use plastics and improve waste management through composting and vermicomposting.
- Creating sustainable income opportunities from waste biomass.
These initiatives aim to equip students and volunteers with the knowledge and skills they need to contribute positively to the environment.
Goyal highlighted the importance of this project by stating that it reinforces NSS’s dedication to environmental care within colleges affiliated with Panjab University. He noted that the program allows NSS volunteers to participate in impactful activities that help improve our planet.
