NUA Shines Bright: A Stellar Performance at the Home Triathlon!

At New Ulm High School, the New Ulm Area wrestling team continued to impress with their skill on the mat. They faced off against Blue Earth Area and Tri-City United in a triangular meet and secured two decisive victories, winning 64-9 against Blue Earth and 65-4 against Tri-City United. With just one loss this season, the Eagles are making a strong statement in the wrestling community.

Every wrestler contributed to the wins, with several going undefeated in their matches. Elijah Rieser, who recently achieved over 100 career wins, stood out by earning tech falls in both his matches. He emphasized the importance of not only winning but also scoring points. “I think it’s important to go out there, not just to win, but to score a lot of points on the mat,” he explained.

Regan Johnson got things started quickly with a swift pin in just 34 seconds against Blue Earth’s Jason Casey. Following his lead, Brayden Miller also secured a pin against his opponent, carrying the momentum forward. The Eagles dominated the night, taking multiple forfeits that boosted their score significantly.

Rieser was in top form against Colin Alfson, controlling the match and finishing with a tech fall of 22-5. Other wrestlers like Braxton Kiecker and Candon Briggs also showcased their talents, with Kiecker pinning his opponent in just a minute and Briggs following suit with a quick pin of his own. The teamwork and individual prowess displayed by the Eagles were impressive, creating an overwhelming lead that was hard for their opponents to combat.

In the match against Tri-City United, New Ulm didn’t let up. Regan Johnson opened with a pin again, and every wrestler contributed to the score. Even in moments of challenge, such as when Tegan Kral faced a tough opponent, the team rallied together for strong performances. Rieser again dominated with a 17-2 tech fall, further solidifying his reputation as a force in his weight class.

Candon Briggs faced a thrilling match that saw him trailing at one point. However, he managed to reclaim the lead and secure a win in the end, demonstrating resilience. His close match served as a reminder of the unpredictability that wrestling can bring, even for seasoned wrestlers.

As the Eagles prepare for future competitions, they are looking to build on their already impressive season. They will be competing in Lamberton soon, and their winning streak only adds to the excitement surrounding the team. With skilled wrestlers and a supportive coaching staff, the New Ulm Area wrestling team is definitely one to watch this season.
