DENVER — The Denver Nuggets faced a tough challenge after losing by 43 points in their last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. To bounce back, they relied on their experience and home advantage. And they did it, winning Game 3, 113-104 in overtime.
Jamal Murray led the way with 27 points, while Aaron Gordon added 22. Michael Porter Jr., who has been dealing with a shoulder injury, stepped up with 21 points, showcasing his best performance since the injury.
Similar to Game 1, where they secured a last-minute win with a 3-pointer from Gordon, the Nuggets trailed for most of the game. They managed to go on an 11-2 scoring run in overtime when the Thunder struggled, converting only one out of nine possessions.
Interim coach David Adelman emphasized the importance of experience in tight games, saying, “I believe late in games you can rely on what you’ve seen and done.” The Nuggets, two years after clinching the NBA title, are channeling that history.
Despite Nikola Jokic having an off night with eight turnovers and missing 17 out of 25 shots, he still contributed significantly with 20 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists. Adelman humorously pointed out, “What an awful NBA night,” referring to Jokic’s stats. He acknowledged Jokic’s usual efficiency and expressed confidence for Game 4.
Game 4 is set for Sunday in Denver. Jokic ignited the overtime surge with a layup, making sure the Nuggets stayed in control from then on.
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault recognized the competitive nature of the game, saying, “It was a hard-fought game by both teams.” He noted that while the loss stings, the Thunder are focused on growth throughout the series.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, another MVP contender, had a rough outing, finishing with 18 points while missing 15 of his 22 attempts. Jalen Williams was the standout for the Thunder, scoring 32 points, with Chet Holmgren contributing 18.
The game was tight at 102 after regulation, with both Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic missing shots that could have sealed the win. Daigneault believes overcoming challenges is crucial for creating a great team, highlighting their ongoing journey toward excellence.
As the series progresses, both teams face mounting pressure, but it’s this very tension that often leads to memorable moments in playoff history.
