NVIDIA DLSS 5 Faces 84% Dislike Rate on YouTube: What’s Driving the Backlash?

NVIDIA’s new DLSS 5 technology has stirred up a lot of buzz, but not all of it is positive. The response to their official announcement video on YouTube has been strikingly negative, with 83.7% of viewers disliking it. This translates to over 82,000 dislikes compared to just around 16,000 likes, in a video that has nearly 1.6 million views.

Other recent videos from NVIDIA have also seen low approval ratings. For instance, content linked to Resident Evil Requiem and Starfield had only 14.9% and 18.2% positive ratings, respectively. In stark contrast, a tech demo called Zorah received a much better rating of 37%.

Gamers are raising concerns about DLSS 5’s role in game development. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang defended the technology, claiming it allows for artistic intent while providing flexibility. However, developers from studios like Capcom and Ubisoft revealed they were just as surprised by the rollout as the public. A developer from Ubisoft noted, “We found out at the same time as the public.” This highlights a disconnect between the studios and the management decisions regarding DLSS 5.

As we await the official launch of DLSS 5 later this year, the technology promises gamers more control over their gaming experience. Users can choose to enable or disable it, tailoring the visual experience to their preference. NVIDIA emphasizes that DLSS 5 is meant to enhance gameplay without fully relying on it.

The conversation around DLSS 5 reflects a greater trend in the gaming industry where technology and artistic vision sometimes clash. Gamers are keen to preserve the integrity of their favorite titles while also embracing new tech. It will be interesting to see how NVIDIA addresses these concerns moving forward.
