A meat wholesaler in North Oakland, Suprema Meats Inc., is facing a lawsuit from the city. The complaint claims the business has become a nuisance for the neighborhood due to repeated code violations over the years.
Neighbors report being disturbed by noise as early as 3:30 a.m. Trucks idling overnight contribute to vibrations that shake nearby homes, making it hard for residents to sleep. Oakland City Attorney Ryan Richardson highlights these complaints, noting that the company also operates forklifts, opens and closes a heavy gate, and power washes trucks late at night. All these activities create significant noise.
Richardson emphasized that Suprema Meats has been delaying compliance with local laws. He stated, “It’s unfair to neighbors and lawful businesses when companies like Suprema ignore city rules just to make money.” He mentioned that residents have a right to peaceful evenings and clear streets.
The city’s lawsuit aims to have the court declare Suprema Meats a nuisance and issue an injunction to stop their disruptive practices. A representative from the company has not yet commented on the matter.
