Oakland University Softball Dominates RMU for Series Victory: Highlights & Insights

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies dominated their home games against Robert Morris University, sweeping the series and boosting their home record to 10-1. This strong performance also handed RMU their first losses in the conference.

GAME 2

In the first game of their Sunday doubleheader, the Golden Grizzlies triumphed 11-7. Their offense exploded, kicking off with a six-run first inning, setting the tone for the match. Oakland’s standout player, Maggie Murphy, achieved a personal milestone—her 100th career hit—a home run that pushed her team ahead. After a rollercoaster first inning that ended in a 6-6 tie, the Grizzlies pulled ahead in the fourth with another homer from Murphy. Autumn Liebhauser added a three-run homer in the sixth, helping Oakland extend their lead to 11-6. Despite a late charge from RMU, the Grizzlies maintained their grip on victory.

Pitcher Kenna Bommarito delivered a strong outing, striking out seven and allowing just two runs. Murphy finished the game with two hits, contributing to her team’s victory alongside Liebhauser, who also had a stellar performance with three RBIs.

GAME 3

The final game highlighted Oakland’s resilience, as they rallied to a 6-3 win, driven by a thrilling sixth inning. RMU got ahead first, but the Grizzlies quickly equalized when Brooklyn Plitz scored from a Murphy double. A couple of innings later, RMU pushed their lead to 3-1, but Oakland fought back fiercely. In the sixth inning, the Grizzlies took control, with key plays from Plitz and a daring steal by Murphy that led to a series of runs. By the end of that inning, Oakland had shifted ahead to 6-3.

Bommarito closed out the game, striking out an opponent to seal their second victory of the day. Kama Skrek also pitched well, putting up solid numbers before handing off to Bommarito.

Murphy continued her impressive streak and Plitz shined as a leadoff batter, contributing significantly to their success. Looking ahead, the Golden Grizzlies are set to face the University of Michigan on March 31, promising another challenge for the team.
