Shreveport, Louisiana, was shaken by a tragic event when a shooting led to the death of eight children, including a 3-year-old. The police identified Shamar Elkins as the suspect and labeled the incident a “heinous act.”
Corporal Christopher Bordelon of the Shreveport Police shared details with reporters. He mentioned that seven of the deceased children are believed to be Elkins’ own. The incident unfolded early on a Sunday morning during what officials described as a domestic dispute.
Authorities found the children, aged between 3 and 11, at a home on West 79th Street. Elkins also shot the mother of the children, who is expected to survive. Another woman injured in the incident is in critical condition, while a teenage victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators revealed that Elkins first shot one adult female on Harrison Street before making his way to the home on West 79th Street to carry out the tragic killings. After fleeing the scene, he allegedly carjacked a driver at gunpoint nearby. Officers eventually found the stolen vehicle, which led to a high-speed chase into Bossier Parish. The chase ended when officers confronted Elkins, resulting in his death at the scene. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

Elkins had a background in the military, having served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 2013 to 2020. He worked as a Signal Support System Specialist and a Fire Support Specialist, but had no deployment experience.
