Ogden Health Clinic for the Uninsured Relocates and Expands Services for Better Community Care

Ogden has a new, larger health clinic dedicated to helping uninsured and underinsured individuals. The Seager Memorial Clinic recently moved to a much bigger location, expanding from 750 square feet to 7,000 square feet. This change is expected to significantly increase the number of people they can assist.

Jerika Mays, the clinic’s executive director, pointed out that the move will allow them to offer more services, including mental health counseling. Originally established in 1988, the clinic provides free medical, dental, and vision care. Over the years, it has averaged about 2,700 visits annually, mostly from people without insurance.

During a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mays expressed optimism about the facility’s potential. “It’s just allowing us to expand and grow and serve our patients better,” she said. The clinic relies on volunteers, and there are plans to bring in more healthcare professionals to help meet the increasing demand.

Stephen Seager, the son of the clinic’s founder, praised the efforts of the community at the ceremony. His father, Floyd Seager, started the clinic after encountering a homeless man in need of medical assistance. Stephen emphasized, “Because of all of you, the suffering of countless people has been relieved.”

The renovation of the new site cost approximately $3 million, with support from state funding and donations from various organizations. The clinic mainly serves families in Weber and Davis counties, making it a vital resource for the local community.

Interestingly, the Family Promise of Ogden, another organization helping the homeless, recently opened its new facility in Harrisville. This collaboration among local organizations highlights a growing commitment to address homelessness and healthcare access in the area.

As healthcare continues to evolve, community support remains crucial. This move not only enhances access to necessary medical services but also showcases the power of collective action in improving public health.
