Ohio Sports Betting Soars: Bettors Stake Nearly Billion in 2024, Marking a Significant Growth from Last Year!

TOLEDO, Ohio – Ohio’s sports betting scene has seen big growth this year. In 2024, gamblers placed nearly $9 billion in bets, showing a clear rise from last year’s $7.6 billion.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission shared that Ohioans wagered about $8.88 billion on sports in 2024. Sports betting became legal in the state on January 1, 2023.

In 2024, this huge amount of betting led to $904 million in taxable revenue. This figure is slightly less than the $934 million collected in 2023.

Most of the money came from online sports betting. In fact, around 98% of the revenue was generated through online platforms, with FanDuel and DraftKings leading the pack.

November 2024 was a remarkable month, as it marked the second time since the industry launched that more than a billion dollars were wagered. The only other month that reached this milestone was January 2023.

Ohio taxes sports gaming at a rate of 20%. Of this tax revenue, 98% is directed toward education funding, while the remaining 2% supports problem gambling initiatives.
