The Fulbright Program is a prestigious initiative that connects American scholars and students with international opportunities. Created in 1946 by Senator J. William Fulbright, it allows participants to lecture, conduct research, study, or engage in service abroad for up to a year.
This program aims to foster understanding and compassion among nations, promoting peace through knowledge and ideas. Since its inception, more than 400,000 individuals have benefitted, selected for their academic excellence and leadership skills.
Recently, the U.S. Department of State released new figures highlighting the top producers of Fulbright Scholars and Students for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Ohio State University stands out as the leading institution for Fulbright Scholars, with 14 faculty members awarded. Close behind are the University of Florida, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, each with 12 scholars. Other notable universities include:
- Arizona State University: 9
- University of Michigan, Ann Arbor: 8
- North Carolina State University: 8
- Columbia University: 8
For baccalaureate colleges, the College of the Holy Cross took the lead with three scholars, followed by several institutions with two scholars each, including Barnard College and Carleton College.
At the master’s level, California State University Channel Islands, College of Charleston, and Western Washington University each produced four scholars. Several others, including Salisbury University and the University of Tampa, each had three.
Looking at Fulbright Students, Brown University topped the list with 40 recipients. Yale University and Georgetown University followed closely, each having 36 students awarded. Other key institutions include:
- University of Notre Dame: 34
- Harvard University: 34
- Stanford University: 29
- Columbia University: 29
- New York University: 28
Among baccalaureate colleges, Oberlin College led with 19 students, while Barnard, Amherst, and Pomona Colleges each had 16 recipients.
For master’s institutions, the University of North Georgia had the highest number of Fulbright students with seven, followed by the University of Portland with six. Other schools like Rollins College and the California Institute of the Arts had four each.
Through scholarly exchanges, the Fulbright Program continues to enrich lives by promoting cultural understanding and collaboration across borders.
