Oklahoma State Cowboys Claim Victory at Maridoe Collegiate: Highlights & Insights from the Tournament

OSU Men’s Golf Team Shines at Maridoe Collegiate

Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team clinched its third victory of the season on Tuesday at the Maridoe Collegiate, finishing a stunning 18 shots ahead of the competition. This win follows their earlier triumph at the Cabo Collegiate, showing strong momentum for the Cowboys.

Juniors Preston Stout and Ethan Fang both excelled, becoming co-medalists. They were the only two players in the field to end below par, each finishing with a score of 215. This marks a notable achievement as they are the first duo from OSU to achieve co-medalist honors since Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff did so in 2018.

Fang celebrated his second win of the season, having previously secured victory at The Carmel Cup. He wrapped up with a third-round score of 75. Stout also made an impressive mark with a final round of 73, bringing his career wins to five.

Joining them in the top five was junior Eric Lee, who tied for fourth place with a total of 217 after a final round of 74.

Interestingly, this recent victory recalls the team’s last big event in West Virginia, where three Cowboys also finished in the top five. Gaven Lane, who finished 24th this time around, posted a closing round of 77, bringing his total to 228.

Freshman Collin Bond, competing individually, tied for 29th with a score of 231, while sophomore Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson matched that score with a closing round of 77.

A Look at College Golf Trends

Golf is changing, with more young talent emerging each year. In a 2021 NCAA report, nearly 90% of college golf coaches noted an increase in the overall skill level of recruits. The competition is fierce, pushing players to improve constantly.

This growth in collegiate golf parallels trends in sports overall, where young athletes are breaking records and earning accolades sooner than in previous generations.

As the OSU team continues to shine, it’s clear that they’re part of a broader narrative in college sports—one that values skill, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
