Oklahoma State University Appoints Marsh as New Vice President for Student Affairs: What This Means for Students

Oklahoma State University (OSU) has announced a significant leadership change with the appointment of Dr. Brent A. Marsh as the new vice president for student affairs. His official start date is September 2, contingent on approval from the OSU/A&M Board of Regents.

Dr. Marsh comes from the University of Mississippi, where he worked as the assistant vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students since 2019. He has over 25 years of experience in higher education, focusing on improving the student experience across various institutions.

In his new role, Dr. Marsh will oversee the Division of Student Affairs, which includes many vital services like counseling, housing, career support, and student wellness programs. His prior experience at Rogers State University in Claremore and Howard Payne University in Texas gives him a strong background in student affairs, particularly in regional education.

University president Jim Hess expressed his commitment to putting students first, emphasizing that Dr. Marsh embodies this philosophy. “At OSU, we live by the Cowboy Code, which means doing what’s right for our students,” he said.

A recent survey conducted by the Jed Foundation revealed that nearly 80% of college students experience anxiety, highlighting the urgency in developing comprehensive mental health and support services on campus.

Dr. Marsh’s background and enthusiasm could position OSU well for addressing these pressing concerns, ensuring that students have access to the support they need.

His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in college student personnel, both from Kansas State University, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University.
